Hi to the residents of Christchurch..I have a very special interest in the village of Christchurch. I am tracing my fathers family tree as I never got to know relatives on my fathers side. My fathers parents were publicans of the George and Tavern Inn in Soham High Street around 1900. Another relative of my father, was the publican of the Three Tuns Inn in Welney around 1883 (Henry Lavender)..but also another relative of my father was the publican of the Dun Cow in Christchuch also around 1883/7 (Roger Lavender). My wife spent a couple of days visiting the area 21st/22nd of November 07, we stayed at the Lamb and Flag in Welney, and also made a visit to the Dun Cow in Christchurch. We were so pleased to have been allowed to look inside the Dun Cow by the new owner, and I was so very much interested in one of the old pictures of the Dun Cow which was hanging on the wall... it shows the Dun Cow with a family pictured standing outside the pub....I was so interested in the picture as for all I know it could have been my fathers relatives. I would so much love to have a copy of that picture..even if the family shown in the picture are,nt my fathers relations. If anyone knows of any way I can get a copy of that picture, I would willingly pay anything. Whilst we were visiting the area, my wife and I spent a few hours in Wisbech, and we made a visit to the Elsgood Brewery, but they could now help with the picture Id seen in the Dun Cow. The visit was most enjoyable to me, to be able to trace my fathers birth area and those of his relatives. Best Wishes to you all.....EDWIN LAVENDER (BRISTOL)

Greetings from the Welney Webmaster. It's nice to see a Christchurch website again after such a long absence. The old site included a report on the previous Christchurch village appraisal in 1999, a link to which can be found on the Welney Website (www.welney.org.uk) under "local goverment".

excellent! We moved to Christchurch from the coventry area in the summer of 05 - it is the best thing we ever did! The village is very friendly and welcoming and we already have many friends here though the church and the pub! - I especially the history article as I would like to find out more about the history of my own home in the village.

George CAWTHORN was my gt gt grandfather! He was also the enmumerator, along with his son, John, for Christchurch on the 1891 England Census. I was brought up in Christchurch and couldn't wait to get away when I was 18 - now I love coming back to see my parents who still live in the village as I can do my family history research at the same time!
